TradeStar Insider · How-to
This explains how to ask an AI assistant for U.S. insider open-market purchases (SEC Form 4) and get answers where every number links to the source filing. It uses the Insider Buy Signals MCP server — an open, free, remote MCP server that Claude and other MCP clients can call directly.
The feed contains open-market buys parsed from SEC EDGAR Form 4 filings, filtered to the ones that carry information:
Option exercises, 10b5-1 planned sales, and sub-threshold noise are dropped. Every returned field — shares, price, dollar value, percent versus holdings — is parsed from a real filing and ships with a link to that filing on sec.gov. Records that cannot be linked to a filing are dropped, not guessed.
A note on clusters: a cluster is two or more insiders buying the same company inside a single window of seven calendar days or fewer, grouped across the whole corpus rather than day by day. An earlier build measured that window as seven days on either side of each filing, which could stretch a group to fourteen days end-to-end and overstate how many insiders truly bought inside one seven-day span. That has been corrected to a true ≤7-day window, so a handful of clusters now report fewer insiders and a smaller combined dollar figure than before — the honest count for the window as stated. Which filings cluster is unchanged; only the over-reached insider counts came down.
In the Claude Code CLI, one line connects the live server:
claude mcp add --transport http insider-signals https://mcp.tradestarinsider.com/mcp
Any MCP client that supports remote Streamable HTTP servers works the same way; point it at https://mcp.tradestarinsider.com/mcp. No API key, no OAuth. The server is per-IP rate limited.
Once connected, ask the assistant directly. Examples:
The assistant calls the matching tool and returns the parsed rows with their sec.gov links.
insider_signals_today — today's filing-verified buy signals.insider_signals_by_ticker — signals for one ticker.insider_signals_by_date_range — signals over a filed-date range.insider_cluster_buys — cluster buys (2+ insiders, one company, 7 days).insider_filing_lookup — a single Form 4 filing by accession number.Every signal carries a filing_url pointing to the filing index on sec.gov. To verify any number the assistant reports, open that link and read the Form 4 directly — the shares, price, and transaction code (P = open-market purchase) are on the filing itself. If a figure has no filing link, it is not in this feed.
